Microneedling Facial Guide (FAQs)

Microneedling has become one of the go-to treatments for clients looking to smooth texture, fade scarring, brighten their complexion and boost collagen, all with minimal downtime. If you’ve been considering a microneedling facial but feel unsure where to start, our guide below aims to answer your questions.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a gentle skin rejuvenation treatment that uses tiny, sterile needles to create micro-channels in the skin. These controlled micro-injuries trigger your body’s natural healing response and stimulate collagen and elastin - the proteins responsible for firmness, smoothness and a youthful complexion.

Although the punctures are microscopic and not visible to the eye, they are powerful enough to encourage fresh, healthy skin renewal.

Could Microneedling Be for You?

Microneedling is suitable for a wide range of skin concerns, including:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Rough or uneven texture

  • Enlarged pores

  • Acne scars and mild surgical scars

  • Hyperpigmentation and sun damage

  • Dull, dehydrated skin

This treatment works across all skin tones when performed with the right technique, pressure, and needle depth, something we take great care with at Fainahlee.

Microneedling may not be recommended if you have active acne, eczema flare-ups, severe rosacea or open wounds. If you are unsure, your free consultation with our expert aesthetician, Talia, will determine whether this treatment is suitable for you.

Does Microneedling Hurt?

Most clients describe microneedling as very tolerable. Before the treatment begins, a numbing cream is applied for 30 minutes to keep you comfortable. The needles used are extremely fine, and the sensation is often compared to light scratching or warm brushing.

After the session, a soothing serum is applied to reduce redness and support healing as the numbing slowly wears off.

How Many Microneedling Sessions Do You Need?

This depends on your skin goals, but most clients start noticing visible improvement after 3 - 6 sessions, spaced 4 - 6 weeks apart.

During your consultation, our Aesthetician, Talia will assess your skin and create a personalised plan tailored to:

  • your concerns

  • your lifestyle

  • your skin’s healing response

  • your long-term goals

Some clients choose microneedling as a restorative series, while others maintain results with seasonal top-ups.

What Results Can You Expect?

Clients commonly experience:

  • Smoother, refined texture

  • Reduced appearance of acne scars or stretch marks

  • Smaller-looking pores

  • More even skin tone (less pigmentation, fewer sunspots)

  • A firmer, plumper, youthful glow

  • Overall skin rejuvenation with minimal downtime

Results build gradually over several weeks as collagen increases, meaning improvements continue even after your appointment.

How Long Does a Microneedling Appointment Take?

Approximately 60–90 minutes, including numbing time.

What Is the Best Aftercare? (Do’s & Don’ts)

Healing typically lasts 5 - 7 days and caring for your skin during this time is very important.

Do:

  • Cleanse gently with a mild cleanser

  • Apply moisturiser 2–3 times a day

  • Keep the skin hydrated and protected

  • Follow any personalised aftercare guidance

Don’t:

  • Do not wash your face or apply products until the next day

  • Avoid sun exposure for 5–7 days

  • Avoid makeup for at least 48 hours

  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 7 days

  • Avoid active skincare (retinoids, exfoliating acids, Vitamin C) until cleared

  • Avoid touching or scratching the treated area

Think of your skin as lightly sunburnt, treat it with softness and patience.

When Will I See Results?

Many clients notice smoother, fresher-looking skin within 7 - 10 days. Collagen production may continue for several weeks and full results may become visible around 4 - 6 weeks after each session.

Can I Wear Makeup After Microneedling?

We recommend avoiding makeup for 48 hours, especially foundation. After that, mineral-based makeup is preferred until your skin fully heals.

Is Microneedling Safe for Melanated or Sensitive Skin?

Yes, when performed by a trained professional who understands needle depth, pressure, and post-care for deeper skin tones. At Fainahlee, treatments are adapted to different levels to avoid irritation or post-inflammatory pigmentation.
